Watching the Google Latitude and Chatting

(Wauchula, FL) Hi 63 Lo 51 --  Jim had to drive to Tampa today to the VA hospital for his physical exam.  I got up with him instead of sleeping in this morning.  He had blood work scheduled so he couldn't eat anything, or even drink any coffee, so we chatted awhile, read a few emails and he left.

I had planned on doing a lot of fun stuff all day, but it was chilly, cloudy and misty rain all morning so I never got motivated to do anything.  Our younger son started a chat from work, so I chatted with him off and on all day.  I also watched some morning TV shows that I like, and some of my recorded shows.  In the afternoon, there's never anything good on TV so I got busy on one of the things on my "to do" list.  I had a huge pile of magazines that I kept thinking I'd eventually read. Some of them were over two years old, so I went through most of them to read the one article I kept them for, then pitched them.

The most fun thing I did was follow Jim on Google Latitude during his trip to and from Tampa.  It's a Google site that lets you make public your whereabouts by way of your cell phone GPS.  Most of the new smart phones have this capability.  You set it up with your friends and family and then everyone can know where everyone is.  It actually showed his position on Google Maps as he was driving along.  He keeps his phone in a holster on his belt, so I think the GPS occasionally got confused because he would sometimes bounce around onto dead end streets and in the middle of nowhere.  Our son also watched his progress from his office in Chicago, and he would ask (by way of chat) why he isn't taking the highway.  In real time, he was on the highway.  (I really was...honest! - Jim)  What a good time we had!  I love today's technology... it's really shrunk the world.  I wonder what it will be like ten years from now.

When Jim got home he updated me on his day.  He really loves his new doctor, and is impressed with how he was treated.  He can now get care in any VA facility around the country.  Oh yes, he passed his physical with flying colors, too.

We had dinner then relaxed the rest of the evening.  It was a fun day for me (but maybe not as much fun for Jim.)

I love the new technology too, but that one seems to much "big brother" to me. No where to hide :)
