What I'm Thinking

(Wauchula, FL) -- Hi 72 Lo 46  - The wind out of the northeast was chilly but the sun was quite warm. One of those days a jacket was too much and sleeveless shirts and shorts weren't enough. Sure was a great day to be outside.

Sundays we usually do nothing.  It's a kickback reading day, playing games on the PC or Angry Birds on our Droids.  And Jim is watching some of the football playoffs. I don't follow football, but as long as it's not real loud I can tune it out.

As I was reading the many blogs that I follow, I've noticed more and more the different kinds of fun and adventures people are having in their travels.   Jim and I were discussing how we're handling the full time RV lifestyle, and what we like and don't like to do.  Some people love boating and go into rivers or creeks in alligator and snake invested waters. That to us is being very adventurous.  Some love to be in parks that are very woodsy and secluded, under trees that can have insects and other critters dropping down on the rig.  Others enjoy boondocking in the deserts of the southwest, living on battery power with no air conditioning.  We respect all of these different kinds of lifestyles, and admire those who have that sense of adventure.

Looking back on the different parks and locations we've been, we tend to prefer the private parks, and the more amenities the better.  We like open parks, with paved roads, and hard pads in the sites.  We like being near the ocean or lakes with beaches.  We like being near towns that have movie theatres, shopping centers, and good eating places (Culvers anyone?).  We had to laugh yesterday when we were looking at RV parks around Bradenton.  We were driving along and Jim commented, "Look, the park is near a Best Buy!"

When you're on the road you can experience everything, try different parks, different types of challenges, and enjoy it.  I'm scared to be in deep water, so it's a wonder I do anything around water, but I love watching the waves of the ocean, or dolphins playing in the water like we saw at Mayport, FL.  We're not big fans of hiking in the woods, but we both loved walking on the beach yesterday, watching the waves in the Gulf.  Does all this make us "city folk?"  I don't know, but I guess the bottom line is, we like living in our RV the same way we lived in our condo and apartment.  We just get to take our condo with us to wherever we want.  How great is that?

We've decided on some changes to our trip to Canada this summer.  We have friends in the midwest that we'd like to see, so instead of going east after leaving our friend Sandra in Smith Falls, Ontario, we're going to head west across Ontario and re-enter the U.S. at Sault Ste. Marie, MI. We want to see Karen in the woods in Wisconsin, and our good friends from our military days, Chuck and Linda in Minnesota.  From there it's a short hop to our kids in Illinois.  That's the plan for now, but they can change.  That's the fun of having wheels!

Today we spent time outside walking, playing shuffleboard and just sitting.  Jim watched some football and I looked up RV parks for the summer trip. We've gotten lots of tips about COE (Corps of Engineers) parks in the northeast.  We're always looking for suggestions if anyone has a special place to recommend between NC and Ontario, Canada. We like to travel no more than five hours a day, taking our time to be sure to see everything along the way.

Thanks for following along, it will be a very interesting year in our little place in paradise.

But our driveway is gravel, not paved.
We are 40 miles from Best Buy.
We don't have shuffleboard.

Well said, Dee. You can live the lifestyle that pleases you, and stay in the parks/campgrounds that provide what you like. The beauty of it all is that there is so much to choose from and no one need apologize for their choice, nor should they push it on others who aren't amenable.

Sounds just like we like it too!

In NC, take the time to spend at least one night on the Outer Banks. Stay at Camp Hatteras, very pricey but YOU WILL LOVE IT! If you do go, please say hi to Jeanette (the manager) at the resort.

Very well said Dee. I think my criteria has to do with how easy is it to find great groceries! Johnny would probably go with large, level paved sites -- stable footing is important. Both of us would probably say friendly, sociable neighbors. Looking forward to having you and Jim as neighbors someday down the road.. I think you will meet the criteria ;-)

Now if we can just help Karen figure out what to do with you next summer... lol

Let me know what you find out about COE parks any where. We love them...we are staying in one right now and it is beautiful. We will be in Kansas in August this year. Our grandsons have birthdays then.

Well said, Dee. I guess that is what makes all individuals. Hey, when you go to Karens have her call us and may be able to meet up with you also. It would be great to meet you after reading your blogs for years now.
Enjoy the sun!

Different strokes for different folks! I love the diversity our country offers. No matter what your particular likes are, there are probably places that will make you happy. Having just gotten started in this lifestyle, I've loved every one of them.
Guess my criteria would be to have really nice neighbors.♥
Blessings, K

If I've learned anything from reading these blogs for the last year it is that everyone does it differently!

There is no right or wrong.

Just be free.
