Rainy but Very Warm

(Wauchula, FL) -- Hi  77 Lo 58 -  This will be a short blog today. It was cloudy and sprinkling when we got up so we decided to stay in today and catch up on computer stuff.  Jim watched football and did a complete backup of his laptop, and I worked on organizing our photos and backing them up to our external drive.  We keep all our photos on my laptop, and I try to regularly back them up. The problem is I have so many photos, and I have to go back and categorize all of the old ones.   I'm still trying to figure out whether it's best to label them by years or by subject name. I figured the task would take awhile, but it's going to take a lot longer than I thought.  At least it's something to keep me busy.

It was really warm out but we didn't get out at all. Tomorrow we plan some sightseeing. See you then.

I use Carbonite to back up my computers. $5 per computer/mo. It's a no brainer for me, it automatically backs up every time I go on the Internet. I have used it once already to restore all my files after getting hit with a virus that came in thru my email that shut off my firewall and infected my laptop.

I like no brainer things because I'm so lacking in the brain cell department. ;c)

Jim and Dee, I like your header photo. Sounds like your day was productive. We need to stay in and have that kind of day every once in a while! Happy New Year.

I spent two winters scanning all of our photo albums into the computer. I saved them by year unless it was a particular vacation. Then I made a separate folder labeled with the vacation destination and date. Now that we've begun fulltiming I have a folder for the year with sub-folders inside labeled by each state we've been in that year. I also back all photos up to an external hard drive.

All of the family photos I scanned were also placed on an external hard drive for each child. They really appreciated getting all the family pictures and tell me how much fun they have looking at them with their friends.

I went one step further and transferred all of our VHS family tapes to the computer. That was quite a project, but each kid has those files as well.

With multiple copies, we should be save from losing these precious memories.

Keep at it, it's worth it!

If you come up with a simple way of organizing your photos, please let me in on the secret :)
After 2 years of scanning, I have them all on the laptop, they are all backed up, but they are in desperate need of a real organization. I just haven't had the ambition to do it. Going forward, I intend to do it at least weekly for current photos. It's the old ones I need motivation and guidance to do.

Another vote for Carbonite. I believe there is a $50 a year plan. Auto back up everytime you connect to the internet. Remember that external drive is generally in the same location as the computers!

Still need to tackle photos... Several folks I know love Picassa. Lets you organize multiple ways and stores albums on internet as protection against loss. Also allows you to share albums. And it's FREE. Always a good thing...

Sounds like you are coming thru MN - what part? We have some great state and country parks in our area - most by lakes. If you are near by we'll forward a list.
