Visit to a Family Reunion

I made a pancake breakfast this morning then we left for son Rick’s for his wife Laura's family reunion.  It was north of Chicago, about an hour from Rick's house.  Traffic wasn’t bad, but they sure do drive fast on the Chicago freeways!  The weather was great!  It was hot but not as bad as it has been.  We got to meet a lot of wonderful people.

I got to talk to a couple of guys with their own businesses about health care benefits for their employees and how hard it is now to get good coverage or any coverage at all.  I also got to talk to someone who works with immigration.  I learned a lot today on both topics. It’s great to get the views from people that work in those areas.

We got to sit in on a game of "Family Jeopardy,"  We learned a lot about Laura's family based on the answers they gave.  They also worked as a group to create a family tree, and everyone was encouraged to add more to the tree when they got home.

Here are some photos of the gathering. There was a ton of food that people brought so we sure didn't go hungry.

As you can imagine, it was a challenge remembering names all day.  :)  With all the fun and the fellowship, time went really fast.  We gave our goodbyes and left at 5:30.  We drove back along a more easterly route that give us some good views of Chicago as we approached from the north.  These photos aren't the best, as I was shooting through the car windows.

When we got back to Rick’s he showed us his X-Box game, and how realistic the games look nowadays.  It’s been a while since we’ve seen the video games kids play now, and I must say the graphics are incredible.  It was about 9pm and we were all hungry, so we went for a bite to eat.  I won't say where we went (Culver's).   We then left for the hour drive back to Tumbleweed.  It’s really late, and if I don’t close this out I’ll have to change the date.  Thanks Laura for introducing us to your wonderful family!

That's great that you had a good time at the reunion! I am hearing more and more about healthcare or the absence thereof from all kinds of folks on the road. We are in trouble in this area and don't see enough change quickly enough as yet.
