Boondocking at Cracker Barrel - First RV Park

What an experience last night!! We stayed in a cocoon last night. Traffic was so heavy trying to get to the state fairgrounds in Raleigh, NC that we pulled off several miles west of that location and went into the Cracker Barrel parking lot. We've checked it out before and knew it would be nice, safe and big enough for us to park, plus we'd be able to get meals. We left in my car to go to my mom's then met up with our friends later in the evening for ice cream and to say bye.

We came back to the rig about 10pm. We didn't unhitch or pull out the slides. The bedroom and the bathroom are in position that we can maneuver around each other to get ready for bed and just crawl in. Jim read, I went to sleep. He turned on the generator for an hour to get the rig a little warmer then it was. The vents were under the slides so it didn't get too warm. We did turn on the little space heater to help with the bedroom. We didn't sleep a whole lot, but it wasn't too bad. The covers kept us very warm and early morning, Jim put the genny back on to get us warm so we could get dressed. We had breakfast and out of the lot by 8:40. It was 25 degrees, so I had to scrape frost off the car windshield.

The trip to Morehead City was great! We took our time, no hurrying and the traffic wasn't bad at all. We pulled into the park at 12:30. It's a small park, lots of RV's but again we see no one around. Those living here are working in the area, so can't say we'll be meeting up with anyone. I guess that will come later the more south we get, maybe. We'll have to start picking out parks with "fun people stuff".

It took one hour to get unhooked and setup then the family members started arriving. Jim's family is in the area so we'll be busy with them for the next couple days. We signed up for the park till Wednesday morning.

We have TV, but Jim can't get the dish to find one of the satellites. He's thinking one tree might be in the way, but not sure. It's still a learning process.

We're back in our home, comfortable and still wobbly without the back jacks. I'll get a bunch of pictures of the park tomorrow. It's cold and I'm too tired today.

Tidbits:

This is what we've been using for the past month to get in and out of the RV.

Our fix is new steps and the whole side looking new again.

I keep talking about cracking our heads on the bed slide. That light colored wood is the overhang over the pillows. When you pull up the covers and raise up, BANG. I have the solution, I no longer make the bed.

Our new location. A pull thru.

We're ready for adventure, which begins today. Thanks so much for following us. Now the fun and challenges will be posted as we move along in learning what it's like. We keep being asked why are you going on the road? Our answer, "because we can."

Like Big Al says this is not a stress free lifestyle, just different stresses, and maybe ones we would rather have. In a year you will automatically duck when you make the bed. Travel safe!!

I am sooo glad to see you folks on the road. Even tho' the DW and I seem to light years away from living this possibility, you have certainly shown that with patience and perseverence and a good sense of humor it can be done. Be safe and enjoy the travels.
