Morehead City - Tropical Storm

Saturday, 7-19-08

What a day! We got up at 6:30 and out the door at 7:00 headed for Morehead City.

The trip down was uneventful and we made it to Jim’s mom in 3 ½ hours, we took our time and didn’t rush it. The clouds look funny when a storm is coming in.

Some background for those that live outside the hurricane regions. I love getting a tropical storm or small hurricane. The water hits you like a fast shower, it’s not like a regular storm with falling rain. Rains come in bands and hits you sideways, there’s sun in-between the bands and when it rains it comes fast and furious. It didn’t start raining right away when we arrived in Morehead so Jim’s sister and I went out geocaching. We had 5 to find and still had some time for a couple more so went to the library to get some more listings. We found four out of seven that we listed. One was in a tree and we couldn’t get to it. It was just out of our reach so we had a bike rider help us get it. That was a fun one, it was a little bitty bison tube. I should have got a picture of it.

We stopped for some home made ice cream and it started raining. It was sideways and it was hard rain. When we got home we were drenched going into the house. In about 10 minutes it was all gone and the sun was out. It didn’t rain again for a few hours. The news says we’ll get the blunt of it by morning. It’s now a named storm, Cristobal.

The rest of the evening was watching the race. I had no internet, so I was without the chatroom.

SUNDAY July 20, 2008

Since I had no internet, I thought I'd just post two days in one and have you read down from Saturday. I sure hate not having an internet or a way of getting emails when we go down east. I know I'll have to get use to that once on the road.

The weather is so different when you have a tropical storm. We went to church this morning with the family and just knew we would get wet, but the storm was off shore and all we were getting was rain bands from time to time. Going into the church it was barely raining, coming out it was very sunny, then to brunch at a restaurant and it poured, coming out it was sunny. On the way home we were in & out of rain, but it was really sunny at the same time. It's really hard to explain. The rain comes down like snow, very fine mist, but enough to drown you. It's actually a lot of fun.

On the way home we went through two RV parks very close to Jim's mom's so now we have a couple places very close to stay when visiting with her. The rest of the trip was uneventful. We got my mom home and no more rain, beautiful skies and a very relaxing evening.

I'm finally back on chat, checking emails and back to civilization of the 21st century.

Days left to buy RV/Truck 1 yr 8 mths 1 day

Good to have you back. I have been to Morehead when I lived in NC. I hope to get back to that part of the USA in a couple of years. Charleston was another favorite of mine.
