From Utah to Nevada

(Nellis AFB, NV) Hi 100 Lo 67 -- Yesterday we had a great trip from Panguitch, UT to Nellis AFB, NV, just north of Las Vegas. The only exciting part of the trip was on I-15 near St. George, UT where a construction zone narrowed the highway to one lane no more then 10 feet wide. It went on this way for several miles. We both were white knuckling the steering wheel.  (Click on pictures to enlarge)

We had several areas of 6% downhill grades.

The terrain and views were constantly changing. Here’s a few examples.

The speed was 80 in some areas, but we maintained about 60 and just let everybody pass us. It's a lot less stressful that way.

Small town along the way.

We are now in a new state for Tumbleweed. (I almost missed this sign, as you can see.)

Our first view of Las Vegas, but it’s so hazy here it’s barely visible. (We’ve been to Las Vegas a couple times in the past, but not with the RV.)

Las Vegas Speedway is just a couple of miles from Nellis AFB.

The Nellis famcamp, Desert Eagle RV Park, is laid out differently than what we’ve seen in the past. The sites are laid out in circles, like big wheels with spokes. It will take me awhile to get around. Winking smile

Our site before we got setup.

Nellis is the home of the USAF Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team. (This is an internet photo.)

They practice in this area quite often, but we're not sure if they're here or off touring somewhere.

We went to the commissary for groceries and did some shopping at the base exchange (BX). They’re both very large and well supplied. We were running low on groceries so it was good to stock up. It’s too hot to do a lot, so we came back to the RV, put the groceries away and just relaxed.

See you tomorrow.

Interesting way to align the pads. Enjoy Nevada!

Gordon really hated those 10 ft wide lanes with the concrete abutment right beside the road.

Enjoy Vegas!

I love that second picture from the top, it is beautiful!! I have seen the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angle, and always enjoy the show. They are fantastic and it must take a lot of practice. I bet it is dangerous when braking in a new pilot (grin).
