(Avon Park, FL) Hi 75 Lo 52 -- We had a busy Friday! As we mentioned previously, we're changing from DISH Network to DirecTV for our satellite TV service. The national networks are no longer going to be available on DISH. Direct still offers national networks out of either NY or LA, so we’re going with them. The technician came out Friday morning to install the new dish and two receivers, an HD DVR in the living room, and an HD receiver in the bedroom.
Out with the old
In with the new
We got a pretty good deal from DirecTV. We get half off the monthly rate for one year, we get all the movie channels (HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc.) free for 3 months, and we even get the NFL Sunday Ticket package free next fall. Now we're getting used to the new channels and how the DVR works. Also, Jim has to re-program our universal remote, and one day soon he's going to take down the dish and practice setting it up before we leave this spring.
That same afternoon Stewarts Mobile RV Service came to replace our water heater. They were scheduled to come on Saturday, but they finished their service calls a little early on Friday so had time to do it then.
One tech did all the disconnections under the kitchen sink where the water heater is located.
While the other took care of the outside.
The heater being pulled out.
It left a big hole in the back of our kitchen cabinet.
It took a couple of hours to get it installed. There was a small but persistent leak that required them to empty and re-fill the tank three times before it finally stopped. The first time we used the hot water after they left we noticed there's a lot less pressure than the cold side. Se we're going to call them tomorrow to come back out and figure out what's wrong and fix it. Maybe a crimped line?
The Olympics have started and I’m a big fan, so I haven't left the TV for very long at a time the past couple days. Jim's not as much into the Olympics as I am, so he reads and listens to music while I watch them.
We have a very busy schedule this week. We’ll tell you all about it in three days.

I used to carry a Dish dish with me and set it up while staying someplace. Now, I just have a huge selection of DVDs. Of course, we don't live in our RV but just use it for trips. There is always too much to do and see during the day and of course computer time which really doesn't leave too much time for TV. My motor-home has a dish in a dome on the roof but I have never yet used it.
We only use the antenna for TV and that is plenty for me to watch. Jim is usually asleep in his chair when I sit down to watch. Good luck with that hot water.
We really like Direct TV. I was quite unhappy that they took off the Weather Channel!
Two items that you want have to deal with once you get back in Travel Mode.
We are so ready to take off and use the new RV but we have to wait for Kris to get out of school. We are enjoying our new home and have plenty to do here to pass the time.
We're quite happy with DirecTV. We switched from Dish years ago. We enjoy the NY TV stations, too. We used to live in that area so it's a little bit of "home".
We had the tripod dish in case our winegard on the roof couldn't get a signal. Practiced but could never do it consistently so bought an automatic dome. Admire those that can get a signal.
Hi,
this is nice post with direct tv information, i think dish provides best dish packages in USA.
