Last Day in Raleigh and Rain from Hurricane Sandy

(Raleigh, NC) Hi 53 Lo 42 -- It rained a couple times during the night but not hard. It was chilly and cloudy all day but no rain till later in the evening. We're getting the back side of Hurricane Sandy. It's currently coming ashore in NJ and is affecting the entire northeast.

We went to lunch with Gary and Chrissa at noon. They were my employers when I retired. They took off work to take us to lunch. Thanks guys, it was great to see you again.

After lunch we stopped to stock up on groceries, then returned to the RV for the afternoon. I went over to Gail and Rick's to visit awhile and play on their newly installed Windows 8 on Rick's computer. It's really neat.

On the north edge of the state fairgrounds where we're staying there's a historical marker telling about the Raleigh Fairgrounds Speedway. It was a half-mile dirt track that hosted NASCAR races up until 1970. Jim went to the NASCAR race here in 1969 and saw David Pearson beat Richard Petty for the win.

We went to dinner one last time with our "Friday Night Group." We went to Smithfield's BBQ in Cary. This was our goodbye dinner till we see them again next year. It's been a fast week and we got to see all our friends. W leave tomorrow morning for Myrtle Beach to get our slide out repaired, then on to Huntington Beach State Park for the Carolina Clan get together. It's forecast to be in the high 30's and rainy tomorrow morning. Hopefully we'll get a pause in the rain before we leave. Thanks everyone for a great week.

That would have been a great race to watch. High 30's?? That is just too cold in my book. Be safe on your drive to Myrtle Beach.
