(Destin, FL) Hi 84 Lo 70 -- We had a great travel day. We’re finding highway 10 is in good shape except for a few miles in Louisana. They’ve repaved a lot of it, so it was smooth sailing. We’ve heard it was really bad, but that’s no longer the case.
Mobile, Alabama has some pretty buildings.
There was lots of water and many bridges, but I’m finally getting used to driving over bridges without white knuckles. The water is so blue and calm. It’s so great to be back on the coast.
And the sand dunes along the gulf are beautiful.
We arrived at Destin Army Recreation Area around 2pm. MWR on the sign stands for U.S. Army Morale, Welfare, and Recreation.
The park is affiliated with Fort Benning, GA. It has around 20 RV sites and a dozen or so bungaloes, along with a motel, all available for active and retired military personnel. Our site is a back in with a concrete pad. It's a "passenger side" back in, which was more of a challenge. There were a couple of posts that had to be avoided, but with some back-and forth moves and empty sites across from us, Jim made it in.
The view down our street.
There are a few RVs here, but the park is nowhere near full. We found out you can stay here for up to four consecutive months, so this would give us another option for a winter stay in the future, if we want to stay this far north.
Here's some views of the park. (Click on photos to enlarge them.) There's a marina across the park on the water.
The motel.
This pier goes out into the Choctawhatchee Bay.
View of the park area from the pier.
The pool.
Children's splash area.
This small "beach" area is kind of interesting. It's basically a sandbox with a few chairs in it.
The bath house and laundry is right across from us.
We're here for a week, and we plan to have some fun sightseeing, and some down time while we’re here. It's good to be back in Florida!

Likes a pretty decent place to stay. You won't be too far from the Gulf Coast National Sea Shore near Pensacola. There is a neat fort there.
I LOVE the Destin area. Maybe we should try to get something lined up in that area for January when we are done at Amazon.
Enjoy the beach!
We had stopped in Destin once on our trip to Florida. There is a Camping World nearby too if I recall correctly that we browsed on a rainy day. That "beach area" is a hoot!
