Birthday Celebrations–Cajun Music

(Abbeville, LA) Hi 90 Lo  68 -- Today is Jim’s birthday and my sisters birthday. They’re two years apart but I’m still the oldest. Happy birthday you two, I hope it was a good one. I wish you both many more.

The whole gang here at Betty’s went to hear a jam session at Museum Cafe in Erath, about eight miles away. Dave, the guitarist who played with Judy Bailey here a few nights ago, was playing there in a cajun band. Today was typical of how people get together with Betty and go to hear music and to restaurants around town. You become part of Betty's “family” when you're here.

The Museum Cafe got its name because it's next door to a local history museum in Erath. It's an old, smoky place with tons of cajun atmosphere.

I really like Cajun music, and this band was really good.

The older guy sitting on the stool in the middle was playing a 50-year accordian, one of those small "squeeze box" types. And boy could he play it! They usually play from 2:00 to 6:00, but today they planned to knock off early because LSU has a football game on TV this evening, and everyone wanted to be home to see it.

We left early to get to Lafayette for Jim’s birthday dinner. We went to Applebees. They have a steak dish on the menu that Jim wanted, and I got the fried shrimp. We had the fudge brownie with ice cream for dessert.

There was a Best Buy across the street from the restaurant so we stopped in to see what new electronic goodies are out, and play with cameras and the newer computers. We managed to resist spending any money. We got home just after dark. Tomorrow is our last day in the area. We’re going to miss Betty.

Happy Birthday, Jim!
Please do not leave that area without eating lunch at Suire's.
It is an easy 10 minute drive and you are guaranteed to buy even more food to bring home and put in your freezer.
Try the Pecan Pie!
At the Riverview or Riverfront Restaurant, try the Crab au Gratin. Absolutely delicious! Hugs to both of you,
