Beware of Falling Temperatures!

(Avon Park, FL)  Hi 70 low 54, with the temperature falling throughout the afternoon. Today we watched the Rose Bowl parade. I have a special interest in the Rose Bowl Parade each year. I went with our son to the parade 24 years ago as a chaperone with the O'Fallon, Illinois High School Marching Band. I can't believe it's been that long ago. I remember it took a year to raise the enough money to make the trip. It was one of the highlights in our family's lives, and we're so proud that our son got to march in it. I noticed that only one of the network channels broadcast it this year. Back then it was covered by all of the major networks. In fact, several parents were assigned the job of making sure the parade was recorded on each channel, so we were sure to see our band when we got home. The thing I remember most about being there is you can SMELL the flowers. We were able to help put the finishing touches on one of the floats the day before. Parade day was cold and some of the kids got real sick, but they marched anyway. What a memory!

We' re getting low on groceries so off to Walmart we went. When we got back we sat outside to read, but it was getting colder by the minute. It's supposed to get down to the 30's tonight. Jim drained the white water tank and put in some fresh water, so we're ready for when we'll have to unhook from the city water to keep our hose from freezing. We had a couple of cold spells last year so we knew this warm weather wouldn't last the whole winter. But the nice thing about Florida is the cold weather doesn't last more than a couple of days. It should be back to the high 70's by this weekend.

I went for my walk,  but it was really chilly and I was glad to get it over with. I converted all our 2011 blogs into a PDF document to add to the previous years. I'm hoping to eventually have all our blogs in one document, and maybe have them self-published as a book when we decide to settle down. Something to leave for the kids and grand kids.

My next project is getting my medical reports in order for the new doctor I'll be meeting in a couple of weeks. Some doctors want a lot of info and some don't want any. I figured it won't hurt to have the information with me for my first appointment.

I have the new event calendar for January, so we have to start thinking about what we want to get into for the new month of the new year.

The Rose Bowl must be an awesome memory! I can't imagine being there and actually smelling the flowers. How cool.

We watched the Rose Parade, and now we're watching the Rose Bowl. What a great game it is, now at half time. So far, a record setting performance by both teams. Of course, we hope our Oregon Ducks win, but it's just great to see them there playing.

I had always watched the Rose Bowl Parade while I took down all the Christmas decorations. I loved watching and have missed watching while we have been full-timing, the price we must pay. I think it is pretty cool that your son got to be in it that one year. Definitely a memory. It is something that is on my bucket list. I really want to go and see it live!

Yup, we watched the parade while we took down the tree too. The little town over west of us had the honors of their marching band in the parade! Pulaski. Our local news was just full of segments of the kids enjoying Pasadena and sad shots of the other non-band students left behind here at home. And they thought being in band was DORKY! hahahahahaha

Happy New Year!

I was talking to a customer in the restaurant this weekend and was saying how the little things in life create such a memory for us. As much as you treasure this, I would be willing to bet your son will always remember his mom and the rose parade fondly the rest of his life.
