(Parris Island, SC) Hi 59 Lo 43 -- Happy Veterans Day to everyone who served to protect our freedoms. Thank you for your service. And thank you also to the wives and family members of our veterans. When Jim retired from the Air Force he had plaques made for our two sons, and on them was engraved, "They also serve who keep the home fires burning." How true that is!
We heard on the news last night that Savannah was having their Veterans Day Parade today. A lot of the historic downtown area that we want to see was closed off for the parade. So we put off our trip to Savannah until tomorrow and stayed close to home today. We did take the truck off base to fuel it up for Monday's trip. The base gas station doesn't sell diesel. On the way home we stopped at the MCX. Jim is looking for a pair of shoes, but he didn't see anything he liked, or was in his size.
We're suffering with a very erratic Verizon data signal here at our site. The signal fluctuates from 3-4 bars of 3G down to a 1X signal, and it sometimes takes forever to load a website. We've dropped some calls too, so the phone signal isn't much better. During the evening it's slow but seems to hold the signal a little better than during the day. We do a lot of games and reading online, so it's frustrating when we don't get a stable connection. We had the same problem when we were at Scott AFB in Illinois, so it must be something to do with being on a military base. Our next destination, Mayport Naval Station in Florida, has strong park wi-fi, so we're looking forward to getting there. I know, we're prisoners of our technology... what can I say?
Jim got our the grill and cooked up some pork filets. It's been awhile since he grilled, so it was good eating tonight. It's supposed to get down to the mid-30's tonight, but then it'll warm up again by Sunday. We're glad we're moving a little more south on Monday.

Tell Jim Thanks for his service from us, Gosh it's been a long time since I was in Mayport. Have fun and be safe. Sam & Donna.
From a military family (retired) to another, Thank You. I always said that families serve too. Hope you enjoy Savannah (my hometown).
When we stayed on base in Tampa, I couldn't get connection. I went to the Verizon store and he told me he gets people staying at the base alot complaining they can't get connection.
Yup, it's a base thing!
