(NC State Fairgrounds, Raleigh, NC) Hi 65 Lo 51 -- We both slept well last night so we were refreshed and ready for the day. Jim didn't have time to set up his satellite dish yesterday so he got that done this morning, so he can now watch tonight's Cardinals playoff game. After getting caught up on emails we went to mom's apartment to pick up her mail and some little things she wanted at the hospital.
We picked up a bit of lunch and took it with us to the hospital. I talked to the head nurse and there's not a lot of change in mom's reports. We also saw the doctor who has been treating mom's kidney problem. We learned a lot from him about low sodium, and its effects on the body as we age. We found out that drinking too much water can lower the sodium levels in your blood. His advice for older folks is drink only when you're thirsty. He was interesting and very informative.
We met a couple of her friends from her church who came by to check on her. She's allowed to get up and walk around, but not alone, so they have an alarm on her bed that warns them at the nurse's station when she tries to get our of bed. We pretty much know now that she won't be able to return to her apartment to live alone anymore, so we'll be busy working with the hospital and the care givers to find her a new place to live next week.
Our campground is very close to Carter-Finley Stadium, the home of the NC State Wolfpack. They had a home game today, so we timed our trip home so we'd arrive before the game was over to avoid traffic. Amazingly there were cars parked almost a mile from the stadium. We're settled in for the evening and prepared for a colder night.

Sounds like she's blessed with a good doctor and helpful friends. Coupled with a nice, new place to live, you'll have peace regarding her care.
Glad you got a good night's rest too.
Bless you!!! And your mom....praying for a good recovery for your mom...hugs hon
Hope your mom recovers well. Just keep her following doctor's orders and with your help she'll be just fine!
Hope your mother has a quick and easy recovery. We're thinking of you guys.
My mother will be 89 on Tuesday and she also was hospitalized with low sodium earlier this year. All her adult life, she has had to watch her sodium intake due to high blood pressure, so we were shocked to find out that was her problem. She is just fine now and enjoying herself everyday!! Best wishes to your mom and you for getting her the care she will need.
That's interesting about the water.
I'm glad she's able to be up and around but it's too bad that she won't be able to live alone again. My thoughts are with you as you try to find a place for her to live. Been there!
Take care.
We'll be home tonight.
Hope your mom is out and about soon, you are blessed to still have her in your lives and she is blessed to have family that change plans and rush to help her. My grandmother was in a wonderful facility when she could no longer live on her own. they even had a pianist that played for them at dinner. She loved it, took weight off her shoulders for fending for herself.
Take care and hopefully will see you in the spring

Good to hear your Mom is up and about; take it one step at a time, and the case managers/discharge planners will help you make the necessary arrangements. Let me know if I can help in any way! ~Marti
