Last Weekend in Raleigh

(NC State Fairgrounds, Raleigh, NC)  Hi 63 Lo 43 -- It was windy, misty rain and icky today. It barely got out of the 50's.

Today I went to mom's to help her re-organize her room after the move she made couple of days ago. I left before noon to get some plastic boxes and labels. I got there just before she went to lunch, so while she was at the dining room I worked on getting little things in the boxes and labeled them so she can find them easier. It wasn't hard to do and I had it done before 2:00. Mom gets a list of activities every morning, and today a singer was performing that she wanted to see. So after discussing some things with the on-duty nurse I left.

I went home and sat with Jim a couple hours before we left for dinner with our Friday group. We've had dinner with this group every Friday night for years while we lived here, and we try to keep up the tradition when we're in town.

Jerry, Dee, Jim, Jeff, Bobbie, Gary, Cindy

We had to cut dinner a little short because we had tickets to the Carolina Hurricanes hockey game tonight. Since we're leaving Monday we had to tearfully say our goodbyes to our friends for another few months. We rushed back to the fairgrounds and had intended to walk to the arena from our campground. But on the way in we noticed a lot of cars parking on fairgrounds property just across the street from the stadium/arena complex. So we parked there (for free) and saved a few steps. It took only a few minutes to walk across the two large parking lots to the arena. We got the cheapest seats available, just $9.99 each (a promotion put on by the Hurricanes' radio station, 99.9 FM). Here's the view from our seats, way up top.

You're sitting pretty high when you have to look down at the scoreboard. :)

My former boss Gary has season tickets, and at the first intermission I went across to the other end of the arena to sit with him and his son Hunter for the second period.  When I worked for Gary I sometimes drove Hunter to elementary school.  He's now a sophomore in high school. It was so good to see both of them.

The Canes beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-0. It was still a misting rain when we walked back to the car, but at least we didn't have to go far to get home. It's really chilly so we turned on the fireplace and the heat pump to warm the place up. It sure doesn't take long to get it nice and comfy. We got back in time for Jim to watch the last half of game 7 of the World Series. It's looking good for his Cardinals at this point; they're leading 6-2. So he's happy! Only two days left and we'll be back on the road.

Glad you had a good time at the game - the score made it even better!! I think we are going to need our flippers today. A good day to just chill.

Sounds like you had a pretty busy day. We're not hockey fans but know that $9.99 for seats is a pretty good deal. Loved the WS games and happy that the Cards won, they deserved it, they definitely played a better game even though things were fairly even for both teams.
