(Scott AFB, IL) Hi 66 Lo 52 Rain off and on -- We got up and had a relaxing morning, then left for O'Fallon to have lunch with grandson Kendall at his elementary school. He's in the third grade at Estelle Kampmeyer School, and they allow relatives to join the students for lunch on Fridays. No cafeteria food today... we brought lunch from McDonalds! When we got to the school we found out our son Frank forgot to call the school and inform them we were coming. Once they called Frank and verified these strange people were in fact Kendall's grandparents we signed in and put on our required guest badges. They do everything they can to keep the kids safe. We even had to "buzz" the office from the front door of the school before we could enter the building. Sure is different from when we were in school! But we're certainly not complaining. Even though O'Fallon is a very upscale and safe town, it's nice to know they take such good care of the kids.
Kendall came to the office to meet us at 12:25 and led us to the "multi-purpose" room, which serves as the cafeteria. We had to wait for the noon lunch shift to clear out, then we went in and took our places at his class's designated table. We talked one of the teachers into taking a picture of the three of us.
Third and fifth grades.
It was really fun, and Kendall enjoyed "showing us off." After lunch we hugged him goodbye and he joined his class to walk in an orderly fashion back to his class. We came back to the RV and watched some TV. A local channel is running old episodes of "Route 66," and we've been recording them. I loved that show when I was a kid. Buz Murdock was my dream guy back then. He looks just as cute to me now. (Our younger readers probably don't have a clue, but those of you in our age group know what I'm talking about.)
Tonight we're going to St. Louis to the O'Fallon High School football game. It's being held in the Edward Jones Dome, home of the St. Louis Rams NFL team. Grandson Kendall will be with the rest of his "Little Panthers" football team and will be recognized on the field before the H.S. game. Should be exciting. We'll tell you all about it (with pictures) in tomorrow's blog.

You guys are the coolest grandparents ever for bringing Kendall lunch from McDonalds! :-)
How great that you could have lunch at school... I know you're enjoying visiting the family!
Have fun

I preferred Tod Stiles, (Martin Milner) in Rte 66. To me, he seemed to have the better personality. It was a good show.
My brother and SIL from England, traveled all of Rte. 66 when they came here for a visit. That's how popular the show was, even overseas.

What a nice visit with your grandson. He will remember it forever that you took the time to come visit him. I do not think I have ever seen Route 66, we will have to check it out.
How fun to have lunch with the grandson. And I bet it really made him feel special. Have fun at the game.
I know he liked Mc Donalds lunch better than school lunch. If he is like my grands.
Can't believe it, knew we had a lot in common, but Buzz! I even sent for an autographed picture. My best friend and I were going to be the female version of Todd and Buzz. I can still remember how mad I was when Nina Foch dumped him. Teenage crushes! See guys probably Monday if you're free.
