Eagles - You've GOT to be Kidding!

(Beaufort, NC) Hi 76 Lo 51 -- I got up by 9am to watch a webcast of the eagles at Norfolk Botantical Gardens get banded today. I've watched the eagles since the eggs were laid and have followed them almost daily. You can read the whole story of the eagles at the website linked above.  Every few years they will band eagles to follow them from year to year and see where they make nests. Today was very special as I watched a guy go up in a bucket truck, then climb a ladder for the last 20 feet or so, and bring the baby eaglets down to the ground to be banded. The whole story is on the website.

I was still watching the eagles when we went across the lawn to breakfast with Sharon and Jim. It took her an hour to make a sausage and egg fritatta.  She also made cupcakes from pancake mix, with a cheese and syrup topping. It was all super good! She got the fritatta recipe from the Food Channel.  I wouldn't spend that much time in a kitchen, but I sure love the foods that are prepared by people who do like to cook.

We decided to go to the Wal-Mart at Morehead City for groceries. I was sitting at a stop light when some lady bumped our car from behind. This is my fourth time that someone has bumped or driven into my car from behind. We pulled over and she got out and accused ME of backing up into HER!  You've got to be kidding! That's the same thing the other  people said after they ran into me. I lost it. I'm glad Jim was there or I would have really got all over her.  There was no visible damage to either car so we left. Why do people do that? Why on earth would anyone at any time BACK UP while waiting for a stop light? Can you tell I'm still a little hot about it?

We stopped at El's, an old fashioned drive-in restaurant that has been in Morehead City since Jim was a kid. It's a little bitty place where the waitresses come to your car to take your order and then brings your food.  They don't hang the tray on your side window anymore because they had problems with seagulls stealing food (and dropping stuff on it, if you know what I mean). Now they hand you your bag of food and you have to fend for yourself. Their speciality is hot dogs, but they have plenty on the menu. (Click to enlarge the photo)

It was getting windy and colder so we went back to RV and chilled until dinner time. Sharon fixed a big chicken salad which was very good.  She has a talent for adding different ingredients which makes a big difference in foods. Between Sharon and (Mom) Alberta we sure are getting spoiled this week. :)

After dinner the four of us watched the Clint Eastwood movie Gran Torino on DVD. We've seen it before but it was really good even the second time around.  We then went back to our home and relaxed the rest of the evening. We're hoping to have another great day tomorrow at the Beaufort waterfront.

how absolutely AWFUL that they would accuse you of backing up!!!! How can anyone even say that with a straight face?

We have eagles starting to nest up the road from us, I can see them in there tucking in new branches and getting it ready!

Glad you had no damage, what a jerk that woman was. Probably texting. I'm with you, I would have given her a piece of my mind, too.

Um, well, uh... We were on our way home today from the Sierras, stopped at a light in Four Corners. The light turned green, and we went backwards! Don had accidentally put the truck into reverse instead of low. We were lucky to NOT hit the semi behind us. So that lady was NOT the only stupid driver on the road today!
