(Mayport Naval Station, Jacksonville, FL) Hi 92 Lo 63 - Our neighbors Mark and Vicky pulled out this morning about 8:30, so I got up to say bye to them. We’re hoping to get together again in November. That’s three neighbors we’re hoping to see in the future that we’ve met here at Mayport.
One of the RV’s we saw leave was a converted box truck. We didn’t see the inside but someone else did and it sounds like it’s well laid out. They made an opening from the living quarters to the driver's seat so they can make a quick get away if they need to. Where there’s a will there’s a way to travel in an RV.
We went to the beach late this morning. We knew it was going to get hot, so wanted to get there before noon. There were several people surf fishing along the beach.
One guy caught this baby hammerhead shark.
And another guy caught a black tip baby shark.
A stingray that washed up on the beach.
They were released back in the water. One family caught a large fish that looked like a snapper, which they kept for dinner. The water was very cold, so neither one of us wanted to go in past knee deep.
Jim listened to his ipod.
We came back about 2:00 to a nice cool RV. I was just in time to catch them closing the gate to the Navy base. This small boat drags the floating gate back and forth to open and close it.
Jim did the laundry, then watched some baseball on TV, and I read or played games the rest of the afternoon. There was only one cargo ship that went through today but the waterways were very active with pleasure boats and fishing boats. One guy said the waters get warmer starting in April and with the high temps the fish are coming in faster. It looks like the birds are going north too. Thousands went over us in formation. (Click on the picture to enlarge it.)
It was a wonderful day. One more day in paradise before we move farther north.

Looks like a great day at the beach. Did Jim venture in at all?
Hi Dee! Karen Bauer here! Mayport Naval base is beautiful. I stayed there with my girl scout troop years ago. We camped right on that area were the ships come into the channel. Sounds like you guys are having fun. Wish we could be doing the same:) Where are you headed next?
It truly does look like a day in paradise!! I can feel the warm sand beneath my feet and the sunshine on my skin! Thanks.
OK...I guess I'll say what others were thinking...Your beach t-shirt is Fabulous!!
