Back to Where We Started Seven Months Ago

(Garner, NC) – It rained all night and we thought we’d have to hookup in the rain when we got ready to leave, but it was only sprinkling.  It was off and on rain till we got further south then the sun came out.  It was in the high 40’s when we got up and it never got much above 60, so it was one of those nasty days.

The trip was smooth. We stopped a couple times for breaks, but the traffic was light so no problems getting on and off the highway. Once we got to I-95 we were both more relaxed.  We both feel safer on interstate highways.  The secondary roads are narrow and we always have to be on the lookout for low trees.

We passed the Kings Domion amusement park north of Richmond.

It was nice to be welcomed back home to North Carolina.

This is the theater that was built by Randy Parton (Dolly's brother) a few years ago.  It's right on I-95 in Roanoke Rapids, in the northeast part of NC.  He was hoping to make this area a Branson of the East.  It never really took off; they had very small crowds.  Randy embezzled some of the money the state invested in the project and he was eventually ran out of town.  The state took over the building, but we're not sure what they're doing with it now.

We pulled into Buffaloe's Mini Storage a little after 2:00.  Fred Buffaloe was our host last winter when we were sitting for three months waiting for Jim to finish his work career.  He was full, but someone left today so he was able to provide us a site.  All the RV parks in this area are full because of maintenance being done on a nearby nuclear plant.  The maintenance is done by transient workers who move around the country.  This is primarily a storage lot for modular buildings, with a few RV sites added here and there.  So it's nothing special as far as the "it" factor.  It's basically just a place to park.  But we do have full hookups.

This is our site.

These are some of the modular buildings that are all around us.  Most of these are used for school classrooms.

We’ll be busy the next two weeks, spending time with my mom and catching up with friends.

It's hard to believe you have been full timing for seven months.

The time has passed so quickly.

Glad you are home safe for awhile. I bet it's good to see family and know where the stores are.

i agree with Marikay... since we have only five months left before we head out it gives us hope...

Great to be all settled in and able to go spend time with your mom. The surroundings don't matter when you are gonna be gone and doing stuff all the time anyhow, right?

We both grew up in Roanoke Rapids and I still have family there. We refer to it as "stinky town" because of the paper mill. That theater was a costly fiasco.
We live in the 40/42 area near Garner so we will be able to relate to your locale. The State Fair starts soon but we stay away from crowds if we can. Enjoy your visit with family and safe travels south.

Any place you can safely park is great, 'cause you're always home.

So nice to have visited with you both, we feel more secure in our plans for fulltiming after hearing how you're doing...we can't wait!

Safe travels, looking forward to our next visit. :c)
