We got an early start this morning to meet up with Bob and Marian for breakfast at Panera Bread in Noblesville.
From there we went to Conner Prairie Interactive History Park. Neither of us have ever heard of it, but we read about it last night on the internet and found out it's a little like Williamsburg, VA only set in the 1800's instead of the 1700's. It's a great representation of a 19th century prairie town. We really enjoyed it and I'm amazed how many teens are working there. They would have to know a LOT about that era to be able to answer guests' questions. No matter what you ask, they'll answer as if it's 1839.
The first thing you see is a hot air balloon. It's tethered, but goes 350 feet in the air. It never is deflated, but they'll tie it down if the wind gets too high. There's a whole area that tells about hot air balloons and large groups can go up at one time. Downtown Indianapolis can be seen, which is great at night.
Here's a sample of what you'll see. We have a lot of pictures but this is the best of them.
It was a very fun and educational morning. We went for lunch, then said our goodbye's for today and went home. Jim spent some time working on setting up the satellite dish. His signal meter would lock on at the dish end, but we weren't getting any channels on the TV. He finally found out he was pointing it in the wrong direction and locked in the wrong satellites. Once he recalibrated it, everything was fine. Whew! Don't want to have to go without satellite TV! The rest of the afternoon we stayed cool inside.
After dinner we went for a walk around the park. I always give views out the back window of our home. Here's our current view.
I mentioned we had to dodge a tree coming into the site. This is the tree right in front of the truck and RV.
Here's some of the views of the White River.
The park area
We give this park an 8. It's in a nice setting, is very clean, and we like the concrete pads. We will come again when we come through Indianapolis to see our friends. Everything we need is nearby along State Road 37.
I want to mention something that happened when we went to bed last night. I noticed some paper stuck down in the corner of our full wall slide, by the bed. I couldn't get it out and Jim noticed the slide wasn't all the way out. He brought in the slide and found this:
It's a paperback book all crumpled up and I could barely get it out. The slide went back out just fine. The rough roads must have shaken it off the shelf by the bed and I didn't notice it. It's another thing to watch for when we move the slides in or out.
Tomorrow will be another fun day. Stick around.
