Major Changes in Plans - TEXAS CANCELLED

Thank you everyone that helped us get through yesterday. We know it's a learning curve, but it sure hit us both really hard yesterday to see our RV tore up. We appreciate the much needed support from everyone. It feels good to have friends.

Neither of us slept much last night. It was a rough one. Between thinking of the wreck and thinking what steps to take next, we both agreed that the Texas trip is just too soon and too much for us. We decided to go to Ocala, Fla for an RV training school. We'll see when we get Tumbleweed all fixed up and head that direction when Jim quits work.

We got up at 7:30, got breakfast, met with the maintenance guy for insurance papers and took off for home. There's a snow storm with possible ice coming in the area and we wanted to beat it before it got bad. It was a drizzly rain when we pulled out, so the timing was great.

When we got to Greensboro, NC, there was sun and the temperature went up 10 degrees. We set back up in good weather, that's a first. Our neighbor came over to help guide Jim into our site. We showed him the rig and talked most of the afternoon. We're without the back landing gears so we're very wobbly. We'll have to deal with it or get some sort of stabilizers to settle the back end. It's going to be a couple of weeks before we go back to the dealer for repairs.

I walked down to the corner where the RV went into the culvert, so here's the pictures.

The rest of the daylight hours Jim tried to reset the Satellite dish. He didn't get it, so a call will go out for an SOS on Monday.

I'm glad to be back in our RV spot. We have a little step stool to get in and out of the rig, but we're relaxing tomorrow and trying to recoup. My eye still feels funny, but I don't have the headache I had last night.

So follow us along for new plans and new dates. It's a feeling of freedom, learning and with help from friends we'll do just fine.

Jim has 12 days left (he doesn't work Fridays)

Really sorry to hear about your mishap. I think most eveyone who has been RVing for awhile has had sonething like that happen. I took most of the back end of our MH off in a parking lot one time.

You'll get it fixed and you'll move on. Hang in there, the full-timing lifestyle is worth it.

Dee & Jim,
We are sorry to hear of your accident and of the changed plans. As you stated, this life is very flexible. In the long run you will be glad to go thru the training school, it's only a temporary setback with a big positive return. It will help you both to be relaxed and more confident of your abilities in moving your rig. I think it is wise to have made that decision. Take your time, give yourself time, enjoy the relaxed pace and see things nearby building up to the big trips. Fulltiming is not a "rush to get somewhere", but a time of just being free. Best of all with this lifestyle is the joy of being with your best friend in a relaxed and peaceful environment. Our thoughts are with you guys and your home... it is fixable and will be okay.
Take care and just enjoy being together.

I agree, it's a learning curve and a temporary setback. The RV training is a good idea for sure. You can get to Texas later!

Jim and Dee...we are so sad that you aren't going to get to come to Texas. However, I know you will both feel better after RV training. It will certainly make the fulltimer adventure alot more enjoyable.

Hugs to you both and there is plenty of time for a party!

It happens to all of us Dee the only difference is not all of us admit to it. I ripped the steps off our first 5er and you probably remember our brand new Discovery in the ditch last year.

Just caught up on your blog. So sorry to hear about your mishap. As one who has yet to tow a fifth wheel, it makes me nervous to hear of these things, but I know we'll have our share too! Hang in there and soon you'll be laughing about all of this. Take care!

We all need to beware of those wild culverts and fence posts out there. We had a wild fence post run into the side of the RV last year. We felt sick about it but these things happen. Tomorrow will be a brighter day. Hang in there! Ken F

I hate to hear you latest change in plans but then I know you will feel more comfortable having more training on the driving end. I took out a sign post with my brand new 5th wheel years ago. I greived over it for the longest but then you know when I got on the road and heard all the stories of everyone else and their mishaps I did not feel as bad. I can tell you some stories that makes your mishap seem minor! Good luck and keep your chin up.
