State Fairgrounds, Raleigh, NC

(Raleigh, NC) Hi 81 Lo 47 -- We took our time leaving Beaufort this morning. We only had about 160 miles to go, so we said goodbye to Sharon and headed out about 11:00. Jimmy's working today so we said our goodbyes to him last night. It was a smooth trip west on U.S. 70, except for one minor detour around a two-car accident.

When we got to the fairgrounds RV park we noticed there was still quite a few people still here from the NC State Fair that just ended on Sunday. However, there were several sites open. When we were coming here I noticed the slide that doesn't work is starting to come out a little. While we were getting set up we noticed it's out quite a bit at the bottom but not at the top. Before we leave next week Jim's going to get a couple of 2x4's cut to fit inside on the top of the slide to keep it from coming out any farther on our trip to Myrtle Beach to get it fixed.

We're set up two sites from where we were last October. It was an easy back in spot.

It's quiet here. Fairgrounds Security trucks drive through here very regularly, so we feel very safe. They've added about 50 more sites to the park, and best of all they've added very fast free wi-fi! I'll post some more pictures this week when I do my walks. We have a lot of visiting to do this week, and also eye appointments.  Last October when we were here we spent a whole month getting my mom relocated to an assisted living facility. That wasn't fun at all. It's good to be back under better circumstances.

Good idea on the slide "lock" boards. Wouldn't want to see the slide blowing in the wind going down the road. :cO

glad to hear about the fast free wifi since we stay there when visiting our daughter, who now moved closer to Fuquay...

Happy to see that you arrived safe and sound. The Fairgrounds campground sure has expanded. Free wyfi is always appreciated.
