Nashville NightLife

(Nashville, TN) Hi 66  Lo 58 -- Our first two days here in Nashville were down days. The first day was nothing but rain and the second day we were just lazy. We're staying at Two Rivers Campground, only a couple miles from the Opryland Hotel and the Grand Ole Opry. Last Night (Wednesday) we went to Nashville Night Life, a dinner theater only a mile or so from the park, for a dinner and show. We enjoyed an all-you-can-eat buffet and then a two-hour country music show. (Click on the photos to enlarge them.)

We got there early enough to beat the busloads of tourists to the buffet line. The food was good, about the same quality as a Golden Corral. There was fried chicken, ribs, meatloaf, and smoked sausage, plus all kinds of sides and a few desserts.

They played a concert video of Tammy Wynette during the meal time. The concert took place in 1986, and our host was the very young looking bass player in her backup band. That was kind of cool!

There were several different acts, all borderline celebrities. Most of them bragged about sharing a stage with this or that big star in the past. And one lady, Brenda Best, had "several cameo appearances on ABC's Nashville TV show." They were all very talented and entertaining, but the highlight of the evening was Tim Watson, "The Fiddle Man." He was a hoot! He reminded us of Larry the Cable Guy with his comedic storytelling talent. And oh my, could he ever play the fiddle! He did a version of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" that was every bit as good as Charlie Daniels'. The lighting in the theater wasn't good for photography, but this gives you a general idea of our view:

We had a wonderful evening. It was on the pricey side, but hey, you gotta see a music show if you're in Nashville, right? (We're looking forward to Saturday night when we get to see the Grand Ole Opry. I think that show will be a different level of quality.)

The weather has really turned cooler, and it's quite cloudy and dreary. We're glad we're heading south. We have family on the North Carolina coast so we'll be keeping an eye on the path of Hurricane Joaquin. It looks more like it may strike in the northeast, and we'll praying for those folks. They sure don't need another disaster like Hurricane Sandy several years ago.

See you in a few days.

We really enjoyed Nashville, but being frugal, didn't do any of the shows. Found a bar that had free music and enjoyed that. Next time we're in that area we'll definitely do some shows. Nice post!

I heard that country music was killed down on "Music Row", glad you found a show.

Are ya'll moving toward AP now?

As far as I am concerned, the only two styles of music should be country and bluegrass.
