(Moses Lake, WA) Hi 87 Lo 59 -- We left Puyallup, WA yesterday at 9:40. It took us only half an hour to prepare for our departure. The weather was perfect.
We were told there's a big difference between western and eastern Washington, and that sure turned out to be true. The western part of the state is very green and mountainous, with gorgeous scenery. (Click on the pictures to enlarge them.)
Once we crossed over the Snoqualmie Pass and left the Cascade Mountains behind, the terrain turned into rolling prairie, very much like Montana. We also started seeing the smoke from the many wild fires in central Washington.
The smoke got heavier, but we couldn’t see any flames. The main line of the fires was 12 miles north of Ellensburg.
Very pretty river with the hills in the background.
Then in the eastern part of the state the scenery changed again. Lots of farms and green crop fields. We thought we made a wrong turn and ended up in Illinois. :)
In all our travels so far this was the most drastic change of terrain we've experienced in such a short time. It seemed like we traveled from Washington, through Montana, and into Illinois in a little over three hours.
We arrived at Suncrest Resort in Moses Lake, WA around 1:30pm. It’s a beautiful park, with paved pull thru sites, pool, spa, laundry, bath house all the amenities you expect in a nice resort.

It’s a great stopping point. Today we took a drive through downtown Moses Lake, a real nice homey feeling town. We came back and sat outside for a little while before it got too hot.
We move to Idaho tomorrow, another new state for us. See you in two days.
