Meeting Blog Readers – Movie Day

(Cedar Creek, TX) Hi 81 Lo 57 -- We were contacted a couple of days ago by Jim & Peri, two blog readers who live in the area, asking if we could meet them for lunch. Today we drove up the highway a couple of miles and met them at Benny's Texas Bar-B-Q.

Benny's is a small shack on the side of the highway, usually the kind of place we like.

I had the pork ribs...

The food was ok, but still not as good (to us) as our favorite midwest pulled pork BBQ. But we had a great visit with Jim and Peri. They've been full timers for three years, so hopefully we'll run into them again down the road. Thanks for looking us up, guys. It was wonderful to meet you!

After we said our goodbyes, we went on into Bastrop to see the movie Bears. It’s a Disney nature film, and it was very enjoyable and heartwarming. The Alaskan scenery was spectacular. We highly recommend it if you want to see a good, clean family movie.

After the movie we went to H.E.B. for a few groceries. It's the first time we've been to this regional grocery store. It's one of the nicest stores we've seen, with good prices, and we'll look for them in our travels when we need to stock up.

On the way home we had a hankering for pizza, so we stopped at Pizza Hut. We tried a new pizza with garlic pepperoni crust and alfedo sauce. It was yummy! It's being offered for a limited time, but we hope they make it a permanent item on their menu.

We'll be moving out tomorrow, but we're not sure where. Jim usually calls the day before we're due to arrive at a park to confirm our reservation, if we made one. This evening he called our next destination and found out they don't make reservations, and the lady who reserved a spot for us a couple of weeks ago was fired for "not following the rules." They're full with permanent residents so we're out of luck. The only other park in that town is also full. This all happened around 6:30pm, too late to call other parks. So tomorrow morning he'll be busy lining up a park for us to stay the next two nights. Jim isn't a "seat of the pants" kind of guy when it comes to trip planning, he likes to have everything planned out. So he isn't real happy about all this.

We'll let you know how it turned out.

the planning is the military coing out in him. we go about 1/2 and 1/2 on making reservations in advance and just showing up. have had good and bad experiences both ways. amazing how good a place can look on a website or a brochure until you get there.
be safe wherever you wind up

Thinking you are fortunate that Jim gives input. Leonard absolutely refuses. His says, "you make the plans and point me in the direction we are headed". Giving me a headache planning this years trip to Alaska.

I plan our route but really do leave most everything to chance. If the weather is decent I prefer to boondock. But we have several friends who plan everything down to the last detail many months in advance. That is what makes it so great - everybody can do it differently and it works for them.

We love HEB. George's brother, Bill, works at one in the Houston area. It's such a great place.
I do all the planning for our trips too. Neither one of us like to travel without reservations. Too hard to be looking for a place dragging 40' behind you!
