Dentist - Observation

(Wauchula, FL) Hi 81 Lo 50 -- We had to get up a little earlier today to get to my dentist appointment in Avon Park. Jim went to a dentist in Wauchula and wasn't real pleased, so I found one in Avon Park that's in our insurance plan network. I had a check-up and a cleaning, and there was no waiting. I had a cleaning six months ago, which may be the reason the gal said my teeth were in great shape. At my age any statement that includes the phrase "great shape" is nice to hear. :) I do have to go back to have a cracked filling repaired. But overall I'm pleased with the results of today's visit.

Early in the afternoon I went over to the clubhouse to work on the puzzle for awhile, and Jim sat outside and read on his Kindle. Then we both played shuffleboard. The weather was so nice that neither one of us wanted to be inside. I found out about 4:00 that there was a potluck tonight instead of the third week as usual, so I quickly made up some dessert to take. We had a great dinner, everyone brought some great dishes. After dinner I sat outside for awhile till the mosquitoes chased me inside.

Observation:  We ate at Arby's for lunch today, and while Jim was waiting for our food I watched as several couples came in. The women would point to places they wanted to sit and the men would sit there and wait for their food.  I've noticed that with a lot of the couples around the women would take the lead in telling where things are, or where to go or sit. This is usually the case for couples in our "age group" (if you know what I mean). I point this out strictly as an observation, and without comment. I think the reason couples get along so well  after so many years of marriage is the guys learn to listen to the women to keep peace. What's that old saying?  "If Mama ain't happy, nobody's happy."  :)

We got emails, pictures and text messages about the bad weather from our family in Illinois and Missouri. I hope you guys stay safe. We're thinking of you, here in our little place in paradise.

I'm used to being bossed around. People have been telling me where to go for a long time... ;c)

Don't take him along and you don't have to look after him.

LOL Dee, ye may have that observation backwards.... the men may not be the ones well trained, but rather the women folk are.... the men sit down at the table and the ladies still serve the dinner. We just don't do the slaving over the stove part. Besides, it keeps the men folk from missing up our order and getting on our bad sides. (Oh man am I going to get flamed for this comment.. Slipping away quietly) TARDIS

Glad you had such and great day & dinner... I agree totally with you about men listening to women. It's much easier for all! LOL

Nice photo of Mayport. Good and interesting observation. While I think there are numerous reasons for this behavior, I can tell you that after “leading the charge” for so many years in the work environment, I simply do not want to make so many decisions any longer. A person (men and women) should not put their head in the sand after retirement and hope the world stays away but there is a tendency to simply not care about relatively insignificant choices.

You got it all wrong. We are practicing the "fine art of ignoring". It takes many years to perfect this and that is why couples of our ages get along so well.

I agree, women have a better sense of where to sit... i.e. sun for warmth, away from the door and drafts, closer to the condiments (lol).. I usually would pick differenct places to sit then Al, so usually say " oh look that's a good place to sit"

Whenever Barbie wants "the lead" she can have it. You ever heard the expression-"my Momma raised no fool"? That's my line and I'm sticking to it! :-)

If I don't tell Steve where to go, he gets totally lost! When we back outta the driveway, I have to remind him WHERE we are going, so he knows to turn left or right! NOT kidding!

I have NO idea how he functions without me. I bet he drives around in circles till something looks familiar or he remembers where he was going. Bet he is the King of U Turns when I am not with him.

Not that he would ever admit it....

heh heh
