Daytona 500

(Wauchula, FL) Hi 78 Lo 57 --  It's nice to have nice cool nights and nice warm days.  It's been a great winter for us as we watch more snow and ice go across the Northern states.

It was all about the Daytona 500 today.

I read blogs all morning so now I'm caught up again.  I also played with Mapquest and Google Maps for this summer's trip to Canada.  We're going to have fun trying to pick the campgrounds this year. There's still a lot more researching to do about crossing the border.

Today's Daytona 500 starts the new NASCAR season. It was a fun race, with a record number of leaders and lead changes. Travor Bayne won.  He's a 20-year old in only his second Sprint Cup race.  It was strange watching all the cars running in pairs, nose to tail.  In Florida in the spring and fall it's the mating season for a type of fly that stays "hooked up" after mating, so they call them love bugs.  That's what the cars reminded us of during the race, and why they call it "love bug" drafting.  We prefer racing where each car is on it's own and the driver has to show his driving skills, not his skills at negotiating partnerships during the race.  Luckily, Daytona is the only track where they do that, so it will be back to "normal" racing next week in Phoenix.

I got to chat with mom today on messenger, played games on the computer, then got supper.  I walked around the park, which was buzzing with activity. It's so nice out tonight in our little part of paradise.  We've got some things planned this week, so stay tuned.

I have the same plan for Saturdays and Sundays - watching the races. How about that Trevor Bayne? I think we will see some great racing from him - and I bet he gets some sponsorships now.

I've been avoiding reading your blog till I was able to watch the race on DVR. Finally got to the end so I could come see what you've been up to! My driver blew up early, but cool that Trevor won. Nice to see the Wood Brothers in Victory Lane again for the old schoolers in the crowd.
