Take Me Out To The Ball Game

(Puyallup, WA) Hi 77 Lo 55 -- We decided not to do much today. We hung around home most of the day. I did take the truck to fuel it up for our trip Thursday. Dee got hooked on a TV show called "Living in Alaska." It was about buying homes in Alaska, and how the low population keeps the prices pretty high. It was interesting to see the different styles of homes and the beauty of Alaska.

Many of our readers know I'm a big baseball fan and I try to go to a game whenever we're in a city that has a team. I was especially excited about going to a Seattle Mariners game because I may not ever be in this area again. Interestingly I've been to about 3/4 of all the major league stadiums, but we live in Florida and I haven't been to a Tampa Bay Rays or Miami Marlins game yet. I guess they'll have to wait for when we end our summer travels and settle in Florida year round. The Mariners played the Atlanta Braves tonight. I went online and purchased a reserved parking space ahead of time in a lot close to Safeco Field. It was a smooth trip downtown. I got parked and walked about two blocks to the stadium and bought a ticket for a seat in the upper deck behind home plate, my favorite spot to watch a game. (Click on the photos to enlarge them.)

Safeco Field is an interesting design. It has a large roof that slides open when the weather is nice, and closes for inclement weather. Many ballparks have retractable roofs, but I've never seen one that looks like it's suspended over the stadium like this one.

Here's how the edge of the roof looks from inside the stadium.

The video screen is the largest and clearest one I've seen so far in a major league stadium. The picture on it was gorgeous!

I was pulling for the Braves since they're a National League team like my Cardinals, but they lost to the Mariners 4-2.

We're as far away from home as we're going to get for this summer. We're 3,449 miles from Avon Park Florida by the route we're taking back. Jim has our route pretty much figured out and we'll spend some time in the midwest with our kids and grand kids and Dee's sister, then head on down to Florida by November. There's still a lot to see and three more new states to visit, so we're looking forward to it.

While I was at the game Dee did some vacuuming and cleaning. She likes to clean when I'm not around to get in the way (which is fine with me).

See you tomorrow.

We've watched "Living in Alaska" too. It's interesting to see the homes and the scenery.

Wow! You ARE a long way from Avon Park. Maybe you can stop at a couple more stadiums on the way back! ;)
