Gospel Music - Wine and Cheese Party

(Avon Park, FL) Hi 57 Lo  34 -- On Thursday we went to a gospel music concert at our church to hear the Collingsworth family. The family of six is one of the most popular gospel music groups in the country. The mother, Kim Collingsworth, is an incredible pianist who has won the best musician award several times. She's got the fastest hands I've ever seen, and plays with amazing emotion. You can see her in action here. At around 1:20 into the video she really gets cranking! We really enjoyed watching her play. The whole family is very entertaining, they sang a mix of old time gospel songs and acapella hymns. The church was packed.

When we got back to the park, it was time for the monthly potluck dinner. There weren't very many people there today. The food was great and the fellowship with friends was even greater. We love the socializing. After the clean up it was time to play cards. Our cards group is growing. We have an average of 12-13 show up, and we usually split into two groups.

Friday was my favorite event of the season, the wine and cheese party at the clubhouse. If you've been following us for awhile you know I like stopping at wineries wherever we go. There were 190 people there, and every couple brought at least one bottle wine from their home state or Canada. I think I sampled most of them. :)  There was a DJ and dancing, and the more everyone drank the better the dancing got. Jim's not a wine drinker, so he stayed home.

These guys were very popular. They had moonshine and "gummy bear" wine, which was gummy bears soaked in a bottle of wine. (It was actually very good.)

The dance floor was very active.

I was in no condition to cook dinner, so Jim ordered dinner and picked it up from our restaurant across the street. That evening we went to the clubhouse for another evening of cards. It was a busy and fun day.

Today (Saturday) I worked on an afghan. Jim worked on removing our broken outside steps. They were too heavy to remove by himself, so he called Judy's Jim over to lend a hand. Judy came with him so we talked while the guys completed the task. Next week Jim will take the old steps to a nearby RV parts store to match them up and order a replacement set.

That's it for now. See you in three days.

My very favorite music is blue-grass gospel. And my second favorite is regular gospel music.

Sounds like a fun time! What a good idea to have people bring their favorite wine. Did you dance? :-)
