Long Day of Airports and Flying

(Troy, MO) Hi 54 Lo 31 -- Jim is in Florida and I'm in Missouri visiting my sister Doris and her husband Herm for the next couple weeks. We'll be taking care of mom's legal affairs, and deciding what to do with her physical belongings.

We got up yesterday morning just as the sun was coming up and drove in fog to the Tampa airport, stopping along the way for breakfast at IHOP. When we got near downtown Tampa the traffic was really heavy on I-4 and I-275. Of course I was worried about making my flight. Fortunately we started out early enough that I made it through security and got to the gate on time.

The first leg of the flight to Kansas City was bumpy, we were going through the cold front heading to the northeast. No rain but lots of clouds. We were on time so I had plenty of time to get lunch (a $9 sandwich) before my next flight. It was a smaller commuter type plane, so my carry-on would barely fit in the overhead. Both flights were packed.

Sis picked me up at the St. Louis airport and we crawled through the rush hour traffic for the one hour drive to Troy. We stopped at Culver's for a bite to eat on the way to her place, and I doubt that's the last time we'll go there. It's good to be back in Culver's country! :)

We relaxed the rest of the evening, making plans for what needs to be done and where to start. A lot of stuff will be going on Craigslist. That was my day. I wonder what Jim was up to?

(Avon Park, FL) Hi 83 Lo 66 -- Not much to report here. Just the normal lazy, retired stuff. I went over to the clubhouse for cards last night with our regular group of friends. It was nice being back with the gang. This morning I'm charging up my iPod for the first of what I hope will be many daily long walks. I'd like to drop a few of my summertime pounds this winter.

While Dee's gone I'll watch lots of sports, and some TV stuff that she wouldn't normally care for. For instance, I plan to watch the TV series "Breaking Bad." I've heard so much good about it, and our local library has the DVD's of all five seasons. Otherwise, I'll just try to survive without my best friend for awhile. Tumbleweed sure does seem empty without her. :(  We were discussing the other day, this is our longest separation since our military days. And we don't much care for it.

Being apart ain't easy. This I know. It is something that one gets used to, but it's still not a lot of fun.
Hang in there.

Jim is leaving me today to go hunting in NM with his son for a week and I agree - this is not fun. Disposing of someone's belongings can be a really emotional time. I'm just grateful my folks downsized everything before we had to.

I agree with Jim and Sandie, going thru all the stuff is tough.
2 weeks will go by fast and then just think of the catching up time :-)

Good luck to you both, Dee and Jim. The time will go by fast, at least it will seem like it did when you are back together.

There sure is no pleasure left in traveling by air. Just and unpleasant task to get over with:(

My advice is to wait for Dee to get home before you start Breaking Bad. It's a great show and I'll bet Dee would love it as much as I did.

Dee...traffic in Tampa is always bad on I-4. In fact it's always bad anywhere near Tampa.

Glad you made it safe and sound. You'll stay busy and the time will go by quickly. Before you know it, you'll be back together again!
