Car Show!

(Avon Park, FL) Hi 75  Lo 51 – This post will have a lot of photos. Today was the annual Adelaide Shores Car Show, and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. It was great to walk less than half a block from our site and enjoy the colorful spectacle of all the beautiful cars. There were over 120 cars from every decade going back to the 1910’s. Just to let you know, I didn’t write down the model and year of every car that I photographed, so unless I’m really sure about it I’m not going to guess. :)  Here we go…

I’m partial to the 60’s muscle car era. This ‘67 Plymouth GTX was my first “lust” mobile when I was in high school. Late ‘60’s GTX’s and Roadrunners are my favorites. I told Dee if someone offered to trade this to me for our rig, I’d have to think about it. I think we could live in it, couldn’t we?. :)

Put the 340 c.i. engine from the Roadrunner in a little Plymouth Valiant and you have the Duster 340. These were really fast!

And now for something completely different. A VW bus pop top. This is a very early Class B RV.

Everyone got to vote for their favorite car, and this 1957 Chevy was the winner. The dark red metallic paint job was dazzling!

The same paint was on the dashboard.

This is for my buddy George. He owns a 1949 Ford like this one, except his is black. This one’s dark blue.

Dave, our park activities director, was mingling with the crowd and selling 50-50 tickets. He does a great job making this a wonderful place to live, and keeping us busy with all the activities. Thanks Dave!

After getting our fill of beautiful cars, we returned home to prepare for our cookout. Rob and Debra planned to drive over from St. Petersburg, but Debra came down with a sickness bug, so they regretfully had to cancel. Although we missed them, we pressed on with the cookout and had a great time with Jimmy and Judy, and Jon and Kathleen.

L to R, Jim, Kathleen, Jimmy, Judy, and Jon.

Jimmy and I manned the grills. He brought his over to give us more “grill top” space for all the burgers and brats.

What a day…beautiful weather, beautiful cars, beautiful friends, and good food! We’re just sorry Rob and Debra couldn’t make it. :(

Looks like it was a great day, sorry we missed it! I really like the muscle cars from the late 60's and early 70's too. It's amazing how valuable these cars have become... too bad I didn't keep that 70 Chevelle SS!

The best part is you get to enjoy the cars without shelling out the big bucks to buy them........
