Interesting Move North

(Valentine, NE)  Hi 97 Lo 71 -- There was a storm just north of us last night and we felt the wind rock the RV as the bottom edge of it passed. But it didn’t last very long and we went to sleep before it was totally over. We started out with a big breakfast at Penny’s Diner, the small place next door where we had dinner last night. I love a big breakfast to start the day!

We had no idea what to expect today as far as scenery and terrain. Neither of us have ever been in this area so it's all new to us. This blog is for those who have never seen the central U.S. prairies. It’s so different from what we’ve seen so far.

We saw scenes like this from the time we left North Platte until we reached Valentine, three hours later.

Rolling green grasslands.

Very few farms, but very large and very spread out...

...which made for lots of lonely cattle, huddled together in the 97 degree heat. I felt bad they didn’t have anywhere to go for shelter.

Coming into a small village.

Lots of little hills and nothing else around

We did see some horses

We saw our first real wildlife of the trip. A large deer bounded across the road in front of Jim. I saw him scamper into the field to our left, but didn't have time to get a picture.

When we got to Valentine we saw hearts on the lampposts...

...and hearts on the buildings. It’s called Heart City.

We stopped for fuel in town and the lady at the counter said the fields are usually a lot greener this time of year, but the area is suffering a major drought. We pulled into Fishberry Camping and RV Park, and an elderly gentleman sitting on the porch of the office told us to pick a site and come back later to pay when the owner gets back from an errand. We had plenty of sites to choose from, there are only a few RV's in the park.

Our site, another nice long pull through.

No problem getting a satellite signal here! :) Jim is great at finding RV parks. We can see all the storms that come at us, from any direction. We also have great park wi-fi and a great Verizon phone signal.

There’s no way to describe the fun we’re having in our travels. This is a great lifestyle!

Although I lived many years in Nebraska, I never saw that part of the state. I enjoyed the pictures.
