A New State for Tumbleweed

(Maxwell-Gunter AFB, Montgomery, AL) Hi 75 Lo 54 -- I've updated the Park Reviews and Location Now links at the right.  It was a perfect day to travel. It was a very cool, crispy, sunny morning; great for hitching up and hitting the road.

We pulled out a little before 11am, and the trip was very smooth along the backroads of Alabama to Montgomery. Jim missed one turn and found out he can do a u-turn in the middle of a country crossroads intersection. That's nice to know. :) There wasn’t much traffic and we had very little interstate travel. We pulled into Maxwell-Gunter AFB around 2:00 for a perfect three hour trip.

This is a very nice Famcamp. The park has full concrete pads, and we got a pull thru site with a grill, picnic table,  and full hookups with 50-amp service, for $20 a night. There’s a clean bathhouse, and play areas for both kids and dogs. And we're right next to a small fishing lake. It’s very quiet. This base has very few aircraft, so not much air traffic. The main mission of this base is education. They have the USAF Air Command and Staff College, and the Air War College, along with other professional military education schools. (Jim attended the Senior NCO Academy here back in the 90's.) Oh, and the Officer Training School (OTS) is here.

Our site from the rear. Check out the long pull-thru. We can fit the both vehicles behind the rig.

Jim got our 200+ satellite channels up and running in about 10 minutes. He's gotten really good at that! We settled in and just relaxed the rest of the evening. We both love the feeling we have after getting set up in a new location. It's a feeling of relief (for a safe trip) and excitement of being in a new location. Tomorrow we plan on driving around the base and doing some shopping at the Commissary.

Life can’t get any better than this!

We always had that same feeling of relief when we got set up in a new place.

I remember shopping at the commissary. That was a long long time ago. Looks like a lot of fun.

That's a very nice looking campsite for a military base. Have fun-be safe.
