A Day of Remembrance

(Scott AFB, IL)  Hi 82 Lo 57 -- Cloudy in the morning, but it ended up a perfect day. The question today was, "Where were you on this date in 2001?" I was at work but didn't know anything about it until I got home and watched the news. We'll never forget. We haven't had any more attacks on U.S. soil in the ten years since, so in that regard the war on terror has been a success.

I got up around 9:30 this morning, made our usual Sunday breakfast of bacon and eggs, then sat back to get caught up on computer blogs and email. I got a call from my friend Ruth who told me she and her husband Butch were running late for our breakfast date. Uh oh... I forgot to check my calendar for what's going on today. We were supposed to meet at 11:30 for lunch, and it was now 11:20. We quickly got dressed and headed out. Luckily our meeting place was only about 15 minutes away, so we didn't inconvenience them too much. Since we had a big breakfast about an hour before, we just had a light snack while we talked and got caught up on each others' lives. It was a great visit, and we plan to get with them again before we leave the area. I'll just watch my calendar a little closer.

We came back to the RV and I made some no bake cookies for the grandkids. We went to pick them up about 3:00 and took them to the base theater to see "Captain America." They've been wanting to see that movie, but it's no longer playing at the downtown theaters. The base theater gets movies at the end of their normal run, so it was fortunate that it's playing this weekend. It brought back a lot of memories walking into the old base theater. It hasn't changed hardly at all in the 20 or so years since we last went there. They still keep the tradition of everyone standing for the National Anthem before the movie. The boys thought that was different! After the movie we took them home, and Angie (their mom) had a taco salad prepared for dinner. It was fabulous! Son Frank is a TV news producer at KSDK-TV, Channel 5 in St. Louis, and has to be at work at 3:00am, so we left after we ate so he could get some sleep. We came back to the RV and watched some recorded TV shows while I got on chat. It was another great day with the family.

Now forgetting a lunch date is a serious offense. Tee Hee. But I've been known to do the same thing. Get a phone call and go I'll be there in just a few minutes. Amazing how rapidly I can move. I think that's neat that they play the Anthem before the movie. Wish every place did it.

Whew.. glad you made it in the nick of time!

Sounds like you are having a blast with those grandkids... and the national anthem before the movie is a GREAT idea!

Wish our kids and grandkids still recited the Pledge of Allegiance each day too at school. Soon none of that generation will even KNOW it exists!
