Moved to Kentucky

(Shepherdsville, KY) Hi 71 Lo 56 -- We didn't have a lot to do to move out this morning, but Jim happened to remember that we had our mail forwarded to Frank and we didn't pick it up from him last night. So while Jim dumped the tanks I took off to his house get it. We timed it just right so that we met at the on ramp of I-64.  Perfect!

The trip was very nice. The roads were great with very little traffic. I had forgotten there were oil wells in Illinois and Indiana. Not a lot of them, but it's still strange to see them in the middle of fields. I mentioned previously on the blog that it's been fun watching the crops curing our travels this summer. We started out with fields being plowed, then growing at different stages, and now they're either ready to be harvested or already fallow. The bean fields are a golden yellow, and so is the field corn.

It was very flat until we got to southern Indiana and into Kentucky. It's gorgeous once you get to the rolling hills. In a couple weeks the trees will be different colors and it will be amazing.

We had to take a detour just before we got to Louisville. The main I-64 bridge from Indiana to Kentucky was closed down indefinitely by the Indiana Governor when a crack was found during an inspection. So we had to divert onto I-265 north for about six miles and then catch I-65 south through Louisville. It was no big deal, but the traffic was heavier than normal as we neared the city around 2pm. We were glad we didn't go through at 5:00. We made it to Grandma's RV Camping at 2:40.

We've heard a lot about this park, and we're glad we chose it. The sites are close together, but that's ok. It has hard gravel sites with paved roads. There's a lot of people here, and we already met one of our neighbors, who has been a fulltimer for 10 years.

We got set up and realized we hadn't had lunch, and we're back on eastern time so it's an hour later. So I fixed us dinner then got caught up on word games, blogs and emails. (We have good wi-fi in the park... allelujah!) We have a lot planned so stay tuned.

Kentucky is really a pretty state. I was surprised because I didn't expect much and it offered tons of beauty.
