Exploring the Area

(Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada) Hi  74 Lo 59 --  Jim got up this morning around 7:00 to be ready for the guys to come trim the tree branches, but they didn’t show. Once I got up he walked over to the office to see when they were coming.  Gail in the office made a phone call and 20 minutes later they were here.

We watched the boats go by in the canal all morning. It rained for a little while before I got up, but not a drop the rest of the day. Boats would go into the lock then the gates would shut. It was like watching something being eaten. The gates are hand-cranked open. It looks like a lot of work.

Sandra and Gordon picked us up at 1:30 to take us on another driving tour. I love old barns and they have a lot of them here. I won’t bore you with a lot of pictures, but these two are my favorites.

They took us to the beautiful town of Almonte. It's a small town that has a European look to it. It's on the Mississippi River (that's right, Canada has a Mississippi River, too).  The river walk is very pretty, with several waterfalls along the way.

What a great area. We made a stop at Tranquil Acres,  the RV park that Sandra and Gordon stayed while in during the summer when they had their RV. Like Almonte, it sits on the Mississippi River. We saw hundreds of bullfrogs sitting on the bank and in the water. (And boy, were they noisy!) They're hard to see in this photo, so click on it to make it larger.

On the way home we stopped at the town of Carlton Place to do some shopping. One stop was at the Bulk Barn, where they aisles and aisles of bins full of all kinds of grains, candies, dried fruits, and foods I’ve never heard of. What an interesting place.

After a stop at Wal-Mart for a few groceries we came back home. They had some brands and items we’ve never seen before.  We’re having a blast checking things out around here.  After we got home we walked across the street to a Chinese Buffet for dinner.

Thank you to Sandra and Gordon for another fabulous day!

I think that was a big Snapping Turtle you got a picture of. When I saw the names Jim & Dee it rang a bell & I see they are the Tumbleweed folks. I have so many blogs going on here that I lose track of people. Nice to have some RV folks drop in to see you.

The Bulk Barn looks like great fun! I would've come home with lots of bags of this and that and then had to figure where to put it all in the rv. Good thing you have restraint!
