RV Movement to New Location

Last night the second propane tank ran out of propane. It was just before 8 and found a hardware store that was still open so we lucked out. The stove didn't turn on so I knew something was wrong. Now we have two 30lb tanks back full. It looks like they'll last a week, unless we can change back and forth to electric.

We noticed the water tank had no water. It's too cold to let the hose out, so we didn't use water the rest of the night. About 3:30am it was too cool in the bedroom and we both woke up about the same time. I happened to think if there's no water in the tank then the water shouldn't be on, so got up and turned that off. It was ok we found out this morning, no damage.

We got up at 8:00 to get ready for our first move without help. Jim got the RV hooked up in about three moves. We pulled in front of the apartment and the cars that are usually there were gone so we had the whole area to park and swap out the chairs and bed. The bed in the RV had to have a hole put in for the cords to the air machine (sleep number bed), so Jim got that all done. We were almost done when it started to sleet just a little.

We got on the road about 12:00 to head for Clayton. It's 30 miles away and as we pulled into the place, it was snowing and sleeting. Snow was big flakes and the wind was blowing making feel miserably cold. We're both hoping this is the last time we'll deal with the cold.

The park is new and very well laid out. There's several Mobile homes around us intermixed with RV's. Jim had some trouble getting past a tree and on to the slab. The guy that owns the place came by and even he had trouble putting it in the space.

We now have 50amp, water in the tank and have the electric heat on instead of propane. The people that own the park are very friendly and so far so good. It's going to be a nasty day tomorrow with sleet, ice, snow and maybe rain. I'm glad I don't work. We're here for six weeks.

We use a electric blanket in cold weather, which allows the heat to be set lower in the coach. This saves noise if on electric heat and propane if on gas heat. While we avoid the kind of weather you are having, there will be many a cold day/night in your future. We are in FL at the moment and still using the electric blanket.

Good luck.

We use an electric oil filled radiator made by Honeywell. It is digital thermometer thermostat and totally quiet. We bought ours at Wal Mart for somewhere around the mid 60 dollar range a year ago. This really saves on propane, and hauling those pesky cylinders somewhere to be filled. In the MH the tank is fixed and the entire rig has to be driven to the LP station. Not too convenient at dark thirty in the morning. LOL.

The best thing is to check your tanks often and when the 1st one is empty and you are operating on the 2nd, take the 1st one to get refilled right away. But using the furnace will keep you hopping for propane. I have my furnace on the lowest setting, and it only comes on a bit in early morning if it gets down to 55. All other times I use my electric heater.

OH so cool.. saw the pic you took from behind I assume from your car, while Jim was pulling it ahead of you? Don't it give you a kinda special thrill to see your rig being pulled down the road? A sense of pride, in a way, but also watching that big monster move along.... all the while knowing that others seeing it are wishing it was THEIRS and they were the ones off on a grand big adventure!

We prefer electric mattress pad as opposed the electric blanket...just our humble opinion!

We've had both the electric mattress pad and now the electric blanket. The blanket keeps us much warmer.

Hope you didn't give away all your winter clothes! Sounds like you're going to need them for the next little while.

Gypsy's right, when you switch from the empty tank to the full one (we don't set them up to go from one tank to the other automatically), go and get the empty one filled. That way you don't run out. Makes for more trips though.

What do you keep your thermostat set at? You're using a lot of propane in a week.
