Making the Right Decisions

It was raining again when I got up, but it didn't last long. I was really busy at work. I was chatting with an RV-Dreamer and an engineer came up with a huge project so that took away my fun.

I've been thinking how far we've come in the past four years. Decisions are not something I like to make. I'd rather NOT be wrong when I make them. We work together on what might be best and what may not work. Everyone does that. If we goof, so be it, we learn by what went wrong. This whole deal to go fulltime is surprising and mind boggling.

We decided to go fulltime on November 5, 2005. We thought about it for several months before telling anyone. We had decided on June 2012. The next couple years we went to every RV show that we could. We stayed on the computer for every forum, every thing we could find that said RV. What brands, what models were geared for fulltime. Then we went to the RV-Dreams rally in Branson. We were heading to the kids and added the rally to the trip. I had already been chatting for almost a year with the "family" of RV-Dreams.com, so it was great meeting up with the people and putting a face with the name. We learned that we could fulltime in 2010, with no complications.

Then we started getting rid of stuff. Little at a time. It was small furniture pieces next and more little stuff. I'm still doing that and will for the next two months. I want to move ONLY the stuff I know I'll use and put it in the 5er.

We wanted to be sure the condo sold before getting the 5er. We have only one chance to get it right, we're not made of gold. We sold the condo and decided to move to the apartment and that was one decision that was very helpful. I'm doing great in the smaller space (which worried me in some ways) and now more open about going to the RV with even a smaller space. We love the apartment, so if something happens we can't live in the RV we could stay here easily.

Our 5er should be here around November 5. That's four years from the time we thought about going fulltime. The timing is perfect. I'm quitting work December 4, unless I want to stay with the RV in the park and quit in November. The RV park is several miles from work and not worth going in for just four hour days. We'll have to work it out when the time is closer to make a decision. It's quite an ordeal, and we're loving it.

Stay tuned.

You sound like you have it all together. Good for you. We never fulltimed but stayed in our 27 ft. 5th wheel (no slides) for 6 months in the winter. I never really felt cramped and loved not having to clean a whole house! I am looking forward to following your adventure :-)
